Synopsis

In the introduction it is mentioned that Historic Spanish Point had been defined by eating, hence a cookbook centered around that historic site seems appropriate. Fran Newton’s cooking classes have attracted culinary enthusiasts to the 30-acre site by Little Sarasota Bay. It was Fran and her associates who produced this cookbook by testing, retesting and editing the recipes. Historic vignettes divide the cookbook, each with recipes of pertinence. Sections include: Native Americans–Stepping Back in Time; Hispanic Influence; Pioneer Life–The Other Side; Mrs. Potter Palmer and The Oaks; Duchene Lawn/Classic Portal; Urns; Mary’s Chapel; Guptill House; Footbridge; Citrus Packing House; Jungle Walk and the Pergola and Sunken Garden. Contributors are named throughout the cookbook.
