Synopsis

In the 1950’s, this was THE baking contest to win. From Pillsbury’s 7th Grand National $100,000 Recipe and Baking Contest, these are all the winning recipes. Mostly desserts, even the breads are sweet. The cookies are unique and beautiful – try the bee-hives, or the chocolate cut ups. These recipes are not simple and none I read started with package mixes. These are from 1956, an era when people just expected to spend more time cooking. One recipe is the apple dumplings. Many think the classic apple dumpling made with a whole apple as too big, and too hard to cook evenly and not worth the effort. This dumpling recipe is made with partially cooked apple slices and sounds scrumptious! Such a great piece of history and full of good recipes, seventh in a series that continues today!
